Volantis' New Platform to Deliver Intelligent Content Adaptation to Mobile Users

Volantis Systems declared earlier today the release of a new product, Feed Builder. Feed Builder is a web-based platform which will allow mobile subscribers to manage, aggregate and design their own mobile data and content feeds. Feed Builder is designed to be offered by mobile operators, alongside Volantis' BuzzCast product, that provides operators with the service management and delivery infrastructure for mobile data and content feed delivery. Feed Builder will fully support Volantis' recently announced Apple iPhone and Google Android clients for Buzzcast, as well as third-party and browser-based Buzzcast clients. Feed Builder can be served either by mobile operators or by Volantis and will be made available for use in the beginning of 2009.

Feed Builder allows subscribers to choose from a range of pre-populated feeds and share them with others. Feed Builder's easy-to-use web interface allows subscribers to add their own personal feeds, blogs or photo-streams, and add comments and ratings to existing feeds created either by the operator or by other subscribers.
Feed Builder has the ability to promote "Featured Feeds" from the operator's preferred content partners. The branding and presentation of feeds can be managed centrally by applying specific templates, both globally and per feed; subscribers can also select their own templates on a per-feed basis.

"Smart Feeds" allow feed-based "mash-ups" to be created, and then personalized by the individual subscriber. For example, a subscriber can use a "Smart Feed" to search for and be notified about employment opportunities in their area, or to watch for articles containing specific search words across a set of subject-related news feeds and blogs.

The Feed Builder platform has the flexibility to support different operator business models. The price of the service to mobile operators is based on the number of subscribers. However, operators may choose to bundle the service into their subscribers' data plans, charge a subscription for the service or offer it free of charge while including advertising content.

"Volantis Systems is dedicated to making the mobile web more valuable for both subscribers and operators," said Mark Watson, chief executive officer of Volantis Systems. "By making more and more data and content available on mobile handsets, and by allowing subscribers to personalize the mobile services they receive, both in terms of data and of presentation, operators can see increased data revenues through users upgrading their subscription plans, and by ensuring the relevance of the mobile services they deliver."
