Content adaptation software developer, Openwave Systems and Alcatel-Lucent declared a joint venture to make a pre-configured software solution for service providers. The solution will include Openwave’s open Internet service management and Alcatel-Lucent’s professional services. The solution will enable mobile operators and wireless broadband providers to realize revenue from mobile and wireless broadband Internet services.
primarily the software solution will be powered by Openwave Integra platform, which is the newest open Internet solution specially designed for providing open, secure multimedia and multi-protocol service deployment on converged networks. It includes service enablers like Openwave OpenWeb, Openwave Passport, Openwave OpenMedia and Openwave Location Manager.
“Leveraging the extensive system and applications integration expertise that Alcatel-Lucent offers, Operators are able to launch new mobile services quickly and cost-effectively in their multi-vendor carrier-grade networks,” said Jean-Pierre Gaillat, managing vice-president systems and applications integration at Alcatel-Lucent, in a statement.
Gaillat stated: “The Alcatel-Lucent strengths in providing complete lifecycle of services for end-to-end applications integration, combined with the Openwave leading edge Mobile Internet product supplies a best-in-class solution that is unparallel to competition.”
Senior vice president of Worldwide Sales, Alan Park, Openwave pointed out that for effectively competing with others, operators are seeking new ways to enhance customer experience and for driving the adoption of new mobile Internet services. It will also encourage the introduction of new business models and utilization of the open Internet.
Openwave OpenWeb is a content adaptation platform which intercepts requests for all standard Web sites. This converts web pages into a functional and highly compressed WAP2 pages. OpenWeb also converts and reformats Web pages to make it fit mobile screens during the full user session. It also offers several user enhancements like content filtering, device management, rich media transcoding, user billing and user authentication to improve operator control.
Openwave Passport enables mobile carriers to provide several time-based Internet access options to casual mobile Internet users. The service is made available on daily, weekly or on hourly basis.
Openwave OpenMedia is able to convert rich media objects like MS Office documents and audio/video clips to formats compatible for mobile handsets. The format may be a simple and intuitive web page, an image, a properly sized media file or a stream.
Openwave supplies software required by service providers to converge services and enhance their networks by reducing time to market and reducing the complexity of new service deployments. The company’s technologies include service management, messaging and location technologies.
